Two more water quality monitoring stations were installed at Masan special management area in Korea by October 2003. Masan Bay is semi-enclosed embayment, which has been troubled with land-based pollution. Water pollution of Masan Bay is very serious, and red tides occur frequently.
Supported by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF), two complete pre-packed systems will be deployed to estimate the amounts of land-based marine pollutants in Masan Bay.
MOMAF is trying hard to legislate the 'Land-based Marine Pollution Act' in 2004. There are 80 sea outfalls discharging primary or secondary treated sewage in Korea. MOMAF is planning to install automatic monitoring instruments at the end of pipes in order to regulate the total pollutant discharge. CT is expected to install on-line analyzers at five sea outfall sites in 2004.
